What’s the Best Tape for Detailing?

Like most things in the detailing world, there is no such thing as “the best”.

While it may seem frustrating that there is no “best” detailing tape, take comfort in the options it gives you.  If there was a best product, it would lead to less innovations by other companies, leading to more demand, and higher prices.

The Good News

The good news about there not being a “best” tape, means we can choose favorites.

Our favorite: 3M ScotchBlue Painter’s Tape!

What We Recommend

We recommend purchasing 3M ScotchBlue Original Multi-Use and 3M ScotchBlue Advanced Multi-Surface. These tapes are color coded blue and green respectively.  Another common term for the green tape is Frog Tape.  Although this is a different brand, we can assure you that they are a brand worthy of our recommendation as well.

3M also makes another product called 3M Scotch Masking Tape for Hard-to-Stick Surfaces.  We do not recommend using this product as it leaves excessive amounts of sticky residue upon removal.
